Manual Focus Lens Issue

edited April 2013 Posted in » Nikon D5100 Forum
I have several manual focus Nikon series E lenses and a few old Tamron Adaptall 2 lens with AI-S adapters on them.

These lenses and adapters all stop just short of minimum aperture settings because the tab on the back side of the aperture ring contacts a little tab protruding from the body just beside the lens mount.

It would be at about the 8 o'clock position as you face the mount ring on the body. It does not contact anything on the two AF-S lenses I have.

What is this tab? It is getting a tiny nick started where the aperture ring tab is contacting it as the ring is moved to minimum setting. What am I damaging? I cannot identify it from the camera manual.

  • Howdy @fishwrapper - I know the tab you're speaking of, however, I'm unsure of it's purpose and whether or not you could be damaging it. A Nikon representative would be better suited to answer this question. I'd try giving them a call. Let us know what yo find out.
