I have been wanting to get into photography for quite awhile now and just got a Canon T2i for my birthday. It came with 2 lenses and I got the SD card to save the pics. The things that I prefer to photograph are landscapes and nature, sometimes my kids but thats about it. Any starter tips on where to start and what kind of lighting and what not I should look for? I usually notice the color of the sky or winter time and go by that and some pics turn out pretty well. I havent done any landscape with this camera yet due to wanting to buy your cheat cards for the lenses I have so i know what the heck I am doing. Any advice would be welcomed! I do follow on instagram and facebook so i see some of the stuff you have done as well as reading a lot on this website which is a godsend for my newbie self.
Thank you,
Melissa Kelly

Hi Moose! Love the site, bought a couple of cheat cards, and look forward to your suggestion for me.
I have a Canon 75-300mm and a 50mm f/1.8.
I'm a teacher and my director said there are some extra funds if I'd like to purchase a new lens (I am also in charge of the yearbook and I take all the sports events photos). I think my 75-300mm is great for the outside sports (I do use the Tv setting just about the same as on your cheat cards), I just have trouble with the indoor ones (volleyball and basketball). I also take lots of portraits shots at events and group team pictures. What new lens should I purchase? She's allowing me up to about $500. I was thinking of the 50mm f/1.4. The 50mm lens I feel already forces me back quite a bit for group/team photos, so I don't think I want to be shoved back any further. Will the 50mm f/1.4 be much of a difference from the 50mm f/1.8 I have? Any thoughts or suggestions since I have this "free" money coming?
Thanks!

Hi, first off I love your site. I'm trying to get back into photography and haven't decided on a subject to photograph yet. A while back, for financial reasons, I sold my kit lens and 50mm f/1.8 lens. I ended up borrowing a friends Tamron non-VC 17-50mm lens to photograph my wife's products for her jewelry business. It's great for product shots, but not so much for taking photos of my 3 year old running around (probably the non-vc part). So for someone on a budget, is the T2i kit lens (I think it was EF-S/18-55mm IS II) still a good lens to walk around until I decide what I'm going to photograph, or is there something under a couple hundred dollars that is better? I see the 18-135mm is selling on Amazon for 300.00 cdn which is oddly the same price everyone is selling it for on craigslist. Is there something in between?

I am new to this forum. I have a T2i and I'm going to be going to a photo shoot taking pictures of some wild horses in their natural environment. I just have the basic camera right now.

Any recommendations on a good starter telephoto lens for a setting such as this? I will be walking around taking pictures. I would imagine we won't be able to get too close to the horses.

The time of day will be 3-7pm, so lighting will be probably bright to starting to get into dusk.

Thanks!
