Green focus dot

Hi, this is my first time, and it may be a dumb question.
I have a Nikon D5200, and I put on the original lens, AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 D.
I realize this needs to be manually focused.
No matter what I do, I cannot find a green focus dot on the live view screen.
Any ideas?

    I just tried my D3200 with a D lens and get no green dot or square in Live View either. You will still get the green dot in the viewfinder, and if you have the rangefinder enabled, that will function with a D lens as well. But I don't think that there's any confirmation of focus in Live View except with an AFS lens. In fact, I don't get a green dot even with an AFS lens if the lens is set to manual.

    I don't know why this is, as it would seem like a pretty simple thing, but the ways of Nikon can be mysterious at times.
