Teleconverter compatibility

Will the 70-300mm lens work with a teleconverter to get extra reach?

  • @auston - Canon's teleconverters are only designed to work with a select group of "L" lenses. If you're ok with manual focus, then take a look at the teleconverters offered by Tamron and Kenko, however, be aware that you'll also have to deal with loss of light.

Generally speaking, you'll lose 1 or 2 stops. So if you're shooting at 300mm, normally you could use an aperture of f/5.6. With a teleconverter attached, you'll be closer to f/8 or f/11. This is ok for shooting in extremely bright daylight, but as the light drops, your ability to use fast shutter speeds disappears very quickly.

Thanks, I'll look in to the two teleconverters you listed.
