Nikon D3200?

edited February 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
G'day Moose. I'm new to photography and I'm looking to get a Nikon D3100, but while I have been doing reviews on the camera I have seen posts about rumors of the D3200 coming out.

So now Im not sure if I should go and get the D3100 or wait and see if the rumors are true. My question is have you or anyone else in this forum know if this is going to happen?

  • @Stillsnaps - I've got lots of buddies who work for Nikon, unfortunately they are extremely tight lipped. I guess they like keeping their jobs. :)

As for the D3200, I would say there's a strong probability of it being announced this year. Nikon tends to upgrade their entry level line once a year. The D3100 was announced on August 19, 2010, so it's highly likely that we'll see an upgrade very soon. Although "very soon" could mean 1 to 6 months.

My advice is to not put too much stock into a single DSLR. Over the course of your photographic journey, you'll end up going through lots of DSLR bodies.

Rather, I would focus on researching and buying lenses that match the types of photography that you're interested in. Great lenses tend to stick with your for longer periods of time. They're also a much better investments. If you were to buy a new Nikon DSLR and a nice Nikon (Nikkor) lens, after 3 to 5 years the DSLR would be worth half it's value...whereas the lens would probably only drop 5 to 10% if it's still in good condition. Just my two cents. Happy shooting! :)
