28mm versus 50mm

Hi @Moose. As we all know Christmas is coming so it's time to put the Christmas Nikon list out.

Joking aside, I have a Nikon D3100 which I love. It has the twin lens kit 18-55mm VR f/3.5 and the 70-300mm VR f/3.5. These lenses give cracking results, but I just think a 50mm f/1.8 would give me some razor sharp results in low light situations. It's also a bit of an all rounder I am led to believe.

I also like the 28mm or even 35mm f/1.8, as I would like to take some really close up sharp wide angle shots. Which would you choose if you could only have one?

Thank you all very much and this is a really great helpful site.

Howdy @telboy661 - Sorry for the slow response...of the three lenses you mentioned, I would go for the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G. It's a bit more versatile than the 50mm when used indoors or in small spaces.

The 28mm f/1.8G is a bit overpriced in my opinion (if this is the lens you're referring to). The 35mm would be a much better value in your case.

Hope all is well and happy shooting! :)
