Good Lens for Wildlife and Bird Photography

edited January 2013 Posted in » Canon 60D Forum
I am confused on which of these I need to buy:

1) Canon EF 200mm f/2.8 L + Canon 2x III Extender
2) Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
3) Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

Which among the above would be good for wildlife and bird photography? I am concerned about the image quality. Please suggest.

Thank you.

I've had the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM for several months now and it is perfect for my use. I've used it for wildlife and sports photography. The sheer range of 100-400mm zoom adds so much more to the lens's capability. Quality wise I would certainly recommend using a natural lens over using a multiplier if possible. Certainly with what you are looking at I would recommend either option two or three.

Yes Sanbec, I've had couple of discussions with friends and wildlife photographers. It was a unanimous decision to go ahead with the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM. Thank you friend for a valuable recommendation and voting on the perfect lens.
    Cheers
