EN-EL14 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery

edited June 2012 Posted in » Nikon D5100 Forum
Just got the camera and the manual says to charge the battery (EN-EL14 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery) before use. I cannot find anything telling me if I should keep it fully charged all the time or only charge it when it is low. Anybody know what is best for the battery?

  • I never let the battery go completely flat, keep an eye on the percentage left and fully charge.

  • I'm not sure where I read it but I think the EL14 doesn't have memory and you can charge it at any point in its charge with no issues. In the past it has been suggested to fully discharge your battery once in a while then fully charge it.
  • The best arrangement is to order an extra battery. I change batteries when the camera indicator is flashing (you may continue to run it down more if you are concerned about memory). Recharge the other one right away so you are ready for the next change. Albert.
