How come my pictures have so much noise in them?

edited May 2012 Posted in » Canon T2i Forum
I just got my T2i a couple of days ago and I've noticed that all of my pictures have a lot of noise in them. Even the ones I took in the middle of the day outside. I was wondering if it has to do with the quality of the lens (I have the 18-55 kit lens). Do you know why this is happening and how I can avoid it?

  • What's the ISO setting, or are you in full-auto mode?
  • Howdy @crfj72211 - Chances are your ISO is set to a fixed value (like 1600). To fix the noise problem, either manually lower the ISO (press the ISO button and rotate the command dial) or switch it to Auto. Auto ISO will automatically try to use the lowest available ISO.

If you purchased the T2i used, I highly recommend reverting your settings back to factory default. Just access the Menu, navigate to the third wrench tab, highlight 'Clear settings' and then select 'Clear all camera settings'.
