Best Settings for indoor pics of swimmers/swim teams

I'm shooting a two-day Champs event next week at a new facility (great lights that will be set as bright as they go) but I don't have an opportunity to visit during a swim event beforehand. I used to shoot with a D40X and had great success until last summer when I got the "fatal error" message that warranted the purchase of my D3100. I won't have much time to perfect lighting options and I'm a bit intimidated by the breadth of offerings on this new camera, but I'm planning to use my 70-200mm lens. I would greatly appreciate any hints or tips to make this a successful venture.

Oops, I'm using my 55-200mm lens. Any thoughts on starting settings would be gratefully appreciated.
