Recommend a good zoom lens with faster shutter speed?

I am considering purchasing the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 with IS and then adding on the multiplier for more zoom.
I take alot of arena indoor horse shots (movement) and need a good zoom with faster shutter to capture this.
Does anyone recommend another lens or is this a good one? The fellow from the camera store said this combo will
be great for my needs.

That would be a nice combination. I have a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and it is a nice zoom

@farmerswife - the fellow lead you in the right direction. The f/2.8 will give you some good room to work with in the lighting conditions of most arenas. The only thing that I would suggest would be to practice your manual focusing. Due to the low lighting, auto focus will be slow and you will miss a lot of good shoots.
