tips for less blur in bird photography with Nikon (55-200mm)

edited July 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Hello, I'm using the Nikon with a 55-200mm lens and a nice stable tripod. All I need now is the tips and tricks to get that lovely, sharp focused birdie with the muted blurry background.
I am experimenting at the minute, but there are so many different settings. I often think that my pressing the button to shoot causes blurring. Would a remote switch help as there's no VR with this lens. I need all the help I can get for a clear shot, thanks.

I would assume you will use the 200mm setting for greater reach.

In aperture mode set the following
    1. Use f9 to F11
    2. ISO 100

Set the timer to 2 seconds and let go, that way your finger does not shake the camera.

Also, some folks say turn off the VR when using the tripod. I defer to Moose on that one.
