That's the lens I use most of the time. In my opinion it is great.

This is a lens I am considering myself. At the moment I have the ef 70-300mm f/1:4 - 5.6 is. How much of a difference would I get or should I consider the 70-400?

I have now used this lens for three weeks and I can tell you it is great. I used lenstip.com to compare lenses and the 70-300mm gets much better review than the 70-400mm and it is not as heavy. I had the non L 70-300mm is and this lens is worth the money. Also, just like all the reviews said it is not for low light. I can shoot at ISO 800-1600 and still get okay shots, but if you are looking for low light go with the 70-200mm F2.8 L is II. I tried it out and I was impressed with the low light shots but it takes $900.00 more to get that one.
