Sigma 150mm - 500mm apo

edited July 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
I am a newby to photography and I have a D3100. I wanted to get some better shots of birds so I invested in the Sigma 150mm - 500mm apo lens, however I am having a problem with the auto focus not settling on the subjects and focusing in and out. What am I doing wrong? ;-(

If I have problems focusing on birds, I switch to manual focus. Place the current focus point over the subject and turn the focus ring until you see a dot to the left of the info area at the bottom of the viewfinder. That shows the lens has got focus.

Superb! Thank you, I'll try that.

Thanks Robbo, I never knew that.

Another way is to use the LCD screen in LV mode. Zoom in with the plus button and then manually focus it. This is how I focus on stars and the moon.
