extra zoom?

Someone told me that there was a way to increase the zoom without buying a bigger lens. Almost like a magnified zoom using what ever lens I have on my camera - is this true? If so, how do you do it? My son plays centerfield for his baseball team and I'd love to get some closer shots without investing a small fortune on a new lens. I already have a 70-300mm lens and a 50-200mm, so I think I have as large as I can get without going industrial sized!

  • They might mean using a teleconverter lens.

Just to reiterate also - Our D3100 is a DX sensor that sizematicly makes your lenses a 105mm-450mm and a 75mm-300mm because of the 1.5x FX/DX conversion. A 1.5x or 2x teleconverter will take you to 800+mm DX viewing, but look out for extreme vibration. A monopod will be a must!
