Automatic sensor cleaning

I am in the process of purchasing the 60D and understand it has an auto cleaner. How good is it? Should I plan on periodic professional cleaning?

Hi,
Yes the auto clean is very effective. The period between professional cleans will vary depending on several factors (ie. how often you will be swapping lenses or in what kind of environment). You should only need to have a professional clean it if you start noticing spots that occur in the same place on your photos.
Always carry a good blower like the rocket blower to clear dust away.
I recently parted with a very well used 400D which I decided to have cleaned professionally before I sold it. The sensor, they told me, was spotless and that was after 5 years of use.
