Tradedin D3100 for D3200... my intial impressions are

Traded in D3100 for D3200 and my intial impressions are it is not worth it, unless you get a full value return on the D3100, which I did.

The main benefits are:

1. Cropping (24mp increased my cropping opportunities, but it not as much as one thinks. It increases my reach with my 35mm f1.8 lens to about 150mm by cropping. Yes, I compared it).

2. Higher resolution screen.

Those are the main things. There are minor things like they reversed the + and - buttons.

Now the negative:

After about 1000 shots, I can say it is much harder to get those sharp pics I had got with the D3100. I know it may not make sense, but I actually got sharper pics with the D3100. It is hard to do that with the 24mp D3200 in my opionion.

So, if you got a D3100, use it well. I would not reccomend that upgrade to the D3200. Wait for the next D7100 or D5200 when they are relaesed.

Just sharing my experience.

I think I would agree with that. It is like upgrading anything just because there is a newer version available the cropping can be overcome in most cases by moving closer to the object, but the screen resolution would be the only thing I would call a main issue. As you say the upgrade to either a D5200 or D7100 would be a logical move.
