70-200mm f2.8L IS USM...

I just got my wife a T2i to take gymnastic pics of my daughter at her comps and the kit lenses just werent taking very great pics, so I got her the 70-200mm lens for a early mothers day gift. I have heard the is the best lens for what we are using the camera for. I was wondering if anyone has any tips to optimize the results as far as some starting points (first comp is sat). She hasn't really used the lens yet and could use some direction.

I'm sure there are many variables that come into play but any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I hear that is a great lens. Kinda easy as far as f/2.8 through the zoom range. So all she will need to do is keep ISO set for proper lighting (200-800) and shutter speed about 250-600. Should do great for stopping the action. Have her go a little early and take some test shots.
