How to get the subject and background in focus

edited May 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Is there a way to take a photo of a person and retain background detail? My small compact camera can do it, but the background is always out of focus when I photograph a person with my Nikon D3100.

  • Howdy @snickers - Yep, there sure is. Just enable Aperture priority and set your aperture between f/8 and f/11. This will lengthen the depth of field and put more of the scene into focus. To ensure sharp, accurate exposures at these apertures, be sure to shoot in bright daylight and set your ISO to Auto. Happy shooting! :)
