How do I use extension tubes?

  • I assume you know what they're for; the best way, of course, is to mount the camera on a tripod so vibration and shake is eliminated. Also, use the self timer or a release cord to actuate the shutter. This way you won't shake the camera when you trip the shutter. The tubes usually come as a set of three, and can be used individually or stacked to achieve extreme close up shots. Be advised that unless you're using AF tubes, you will have to focus manually. They're great for getting extreme macro shots of flowers, insects, grains of sand, or whatever.
