some portion of my picture is black

Hello Moose,
I was using my T2i rebel for the first time in a outdoor photo shoot. My "all pics" clicked are correct, but my 1 picture clicked is having a black portion (portrait). That black portion is approx 15% of the picture. Is it a problem with the camera or my memory card? If it is not a problem with hardware is it a problem with light and settings? I was using auto setting to take pictures.

If this is a vertical picture that you took, check where your hand is when holding the camera and make sure you aren't covering part of the flash and causing the black portion of the picture.
