Data Transfer Speed

edited April 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Just wondering how fast the D3100 can transfer to the memory card. I'm trying to find an SDHC that wont slow my camera down, but at the same time, I don't want to pay extra for unnecessary speed. Thanks in advance and thanks for this awesome forum!

So, just to clarify. I am using a class 10 at 20mb/sec right now. Would it be beneficial to pick up a 30mb/sec card to use instead or is 20mb/sec fast enough for the D3100?

It should be more than enough. If you are not having issues under normal shooting conditions, whatever speed you're using is fine. If you notice a lot of slowdown for shots that you don't think should be there (and you're not overestimating what the D3100's performance should actually be), then it may be time to look at upgrading. I usually get my cards from deals on http://deals.woot.com. I recently got a 32 GB 30MB/s card for under $20. Just be on the lookout for deals like that, more storage never hurts.
  • Cool, thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on woot.com for deals.
