Issues with image noise

edited April 2012 Posted in » Canon 60D Forum
I've been having some problems with image quality. I'm not sure what it is or how to really fix it. I'm using an EF-S 17-85mm and an ISO of 100. It's not my lens or filter, because it does this with all my lenses and filters. I'm not sure why my images are looking like this?

  • Howdy @Aquaticbob - The issue could be an related to underexposure. If you underexpose an image and then brighten it up in post-processing, you'll be left with excessive image noise (grain). As a test, I would enable Program mode (P on the mode dial), set the ISO to 100 and take a test shot outdoors on a bright sunny day.

You might also try capturing images in RAW rather than JPEG. When you capture image in JPEG, the 60D is processing the RAW image data on the fly. If you want superior control over the image compression, you'll need to convert the RAW images yourself in post-processing.

Hope that helps. Happy shooting! :)
