Using Phottix remotes with D5100

I have a Nikon D5100 and the Phottix (for Nikon) ML-L3 remote that works perfectly. I wanted to use a remote at a further distance so I bought the Phottix Aion Wireless Timer Remote. I have checked the batteries in both the sender and receiver, made sure the wire connection between the receiver and the camera is ok, set my camera to 'Quick-Response Remote' and the Phottix sender to 'S'-shutter release and nothing is working. I clearly have missed something on either the camera or the Phottix sender. Can someone help me out here?
