Setting auto focus for movies

edited August 2015 Posted in » Nikon D3200 Forum
I must be doing something wrong. I am using the kit 18-55mm lens and want to know what mode selection do I use, what AF selection do I use, and any other settings that that would prevent the auto focus to not work in video?

I have the "A" set on the lens selector. I can focus during a movie by holding down the shutter button half way but I can't get it to auto focus.

As is sometimes the case, the instructions are not very clear on what sets what. The AF settings for movies are the same as those for Live View.

If you open Live View and then push the [i] button you will see a different set of settings for AF than those you get in Viewfinder view. AF-F for continuous servo is the one you want.

Be aware that auto focus noise will probably be heard unless you use an external microphone.

Thank you very much Bruto I didn't realize there were different settings with LV on. I knew this forum would be a life saver for a new photographer like me!
