Picture transfer speed for long exposures

edited March 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Why does it take so long for the camera to transfer the image to my memory card? It takes as long to transfer as it does to take the picture. If I'm doing a 25 second exposure, it takes 25 seconds to transfer the image to the memory card. Is this right or is there something wrong with my camera? I currently use a SanDisk Extreme Pro 8GB (45MB/s).

  • Howdy @rusher66 - There's nothing wrong with your camera or memory card. When capturing long exposures it can take a few seconds for the D3100 to process the image. I'm guessing you're experiencing longer wait times because you have 'Noise Reduction' enabled. You can shorten the processing time by turning noise reduction off. You can do this inside the Menu, highlight the shooting menu and select 'Noise Reduction'. Hope that helps and happy shooting! :)

Thanks @Moose - Noise Reduction 'off' and processing is almost instant! Thanks again.
