Canon 60D with extender

edited November 2014 Posted in » Canon 60D Forum
I have a 60D with a 100-400mm lens and I am delighted with the results so far. As I grow a little older and the budget is not unlimited to get a further reach, I am thinking of an extender lens attachment. Any experiences and feedback will be much appreciated. Thinking of the 1.4 mk iii.

This teleconverter has received favorable reviews. Just be aware that you get a one-stop aperture penalty for using it. So your 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 will become a 140-560mm f/6.3-8. If you’re ok with shooting at f/8 on the long end, then go for it.

Before you drop money on this, have you tried just shooting at 400mm and then cropping in to see if the results are to your liking?

Thanks ohyeahar, plenty of cropping done on my wildlife shots and the results are OK but extra reach would be helpful. I have discovered that auto focus would be disabled which makes the extender impractical for things like flight shots.
