Star trail

edited September 2014 Posted in » Nikon D3200 Forum
Hi, I'm new in the forum and I have a question for you.

I have a Nikon D3200 and I take Star trail shots (long exposure for see the movement of the stars), but I have a problem. In every forum the setting for focus in star trail is infini, but on my 18-55mm lens I don't have this.

How can I focus to the infini with my 18-55mm lens?

Thanks for the answers.

Aim your camera at something really far away and half-press your shutter to lock focus on it. The moon is a good choice since it’s nearly a quarter of a million miles away. Then use the switch on the side of your lens to turn off autofocus. Your lens is now focused at infinity.

If it’s a clear sky with no moon and it’s too dark to focus on anything in the distance, you can do it in daylight. Aim at something as far away as possible. Switch off autofocus and then just keep the focus ring in that position until you’re ready for your star trail shoot.
