Using infrared remote on tripod

edited September 2014 Posted in » Nikon D3200 Forum
I got it all set up on the tripod and I took a picture with remote just fine. Sat and waited for a hummingbird to come to the feeder, and after a couple minutes and the remote doesn't work because the setting has reverted to single frame shutter release rather than the quick response infrared remote mode I set it to! Surely there's a setting somewhere that keeps the settings from changing?

It's in the setup menu, "Remote On Duration." You can set it for up to 15 minutes. You cannot set it to stay on forever, because it uses the battery to stay on, and you'd end up killing the battery. You can set the duration to something like 5 minutes, which is actually rather a lot, and keep an eye on the time. If you get close to 5 minutes with no bird, fire a throwaway shot, and the timer starts again.
