Settings for outdoor fitting

edited July 2014 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Hi all, I'm brand new to photography and got myself a D3100 with 18-55mm lens. Over the next few days I plan on going on site to picture people fitting fencing, sheds and decking.

What would be some good settings to use for if it is either dull and cloudy or nice and sunny?

Thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of photography.

If you’re just capturing shots for record keeping, then perhaps just set your mode dial to Auto and fire away. It's hard to tell you what aperture/shutter/ISO to use since you didn’t mention what type of shots you want.

Regarding what to do when it’s sunny or cloudy, it sounds like you’re talking about the white balance setting. Keeping it on Auto works most of the time. If the colors look a bit off to you, then you can manually set it to sunny, cloudy or open shade depending on the situation.
