Photographing child with glasses

My son wears very thick glasses, which either make his eyes look huge in photos or you can't see his eyes at all because of glare. Are there any tips or tricks for this? I just bought my Nikon D3200 so I have't had any practice, but we have had professional photos done and no one has been able to prevent this.

Generally, you can avoid the glare by asking your child to dip his/her head just a little.
