Settings for Indoor, Low Light Portrait Shots

Tonight I am going to a football presentation where I imagine the room will be pretty dark. I am wanting good pictures, so do I use the flash and bounce it off the ceiling? Are there any particular settings I should be using? I guess from the cheat cards I could use the portrait indoors setting, right? I have a flash light SB-400.

Howdy @steved - Yeah, I would use the "Portraits (Low Light)" cheat card for shots of your kid and the "Families & Groups (Low Light)" cheat card for shot of your boy with a few friends. If you use the SB-400, the same settings will apply.

If the room is small enough and your boy is within say 10 feet of where you're shooting, yes, I would bounce the flash off the ceiling.

If the ceilings are too high and/or he's too far away, then just point the flash directly at him. All the best and good luck! :)
