Settings for Newborn Pictures

edited November 2012 Posted in » Canon T3i Forum
I'm new to the Canon Rebel T3i. I need to take pictures of a newborn with no flash. First, do I always need to reset the camera once I have turned it off? Next, it seems there's more than one way to disable the flash. Do I need to go into the creative mode or is there a way in the portrait mode? All help, including best settings for newborn without flash, would be most appreciated! I also have a EF 50mm f/1.8 II camera lens which I read is a good lens for close-ups.

I have the same camera and same lens. My favorite setup is to be in Aperture Priority (Av) mode. Set your ISO based on the available light, and set the aperture more open (f/1.8-f/2.8) based on the depth of field you want. I've been able to take some really nice shots this way.
