Multiple Exposure Ghosting

When I use the D5100 built in multiple exposure feature I set the camera up on a tripod, select aperture priority, and select two of the three shots available. Once the two shots are taken with me in two separate locations in the frame, the camera then processes the image. Everything in the image looks fine, but when it comes to me I seem like a ghost in both locations. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
