File Numbering Methods

I recently got a new T3i that starts the image file as IMG_0001. I had already been using a Canon Rebel for the last seven years that also started the image files as IMG_0001 and now I do not want duplicate file names. Is there anyway to change the new files to something else besides IMG_?
