Camera Lens

edited August 2012 Posted in » Nikon D5100 Forum
I have bought a Nikon D5100 with basic kit lens for my family vacation in Europe and now I'm looking to buy an extra lens. The problem is I don't know which one to buy. However, I am pretty clear that I want a zoom lens (either the 55-200mm Nikon, 55-300mm Nikon, 55-200 Tamron or 70-300mm Tamron). The only reason I'm considering the Tamron is because they are cheap. Please advise me which camera lens and brand is better, or if you have any suggestions in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

    Nikon lenses are the best.
Having said that, any of the lenses you mention would be OK for you, depending on what you can afford.
I have the 55-300mm Nikon, which is excellent, though some say the 70-300mm one is better.
There's lots of lens reviews on the internet. Why not have a look at Ken Rockwell:

Nikon lenses are indeed very nice, but they are a bit expensive. I'm not wishing to start a "you get what you pay for thing here". I have a couple and couldn't be more pleased with them. Don't rule out the Sigma versions of your two choices. I have a 70-300mm sigma and for the money it's pretty good.
