Lighting a family

edited August 2012 Posted in » Canon 60D Forum
Hi I'm a newbie on this forum and it looks good so far.
I have been asked to do a family portrait and was wondering what I should do for the optimum results.
I have a Canon 60D 50mm 1.8 lens and a 17-85mm Canon lens. I also have a speedlight 430exii. I have been given two umbrella lights which I have never used.
So my question is what's the best set up on camera?
The best set up for lighting?
Should I go on camera flash or off?
Should I try out the new lights or not?
How do I get a large family to relax?

Thanks in advance fr your help.
